Timaru-born Chris Jensen Burke (born 2 July 1968) is a New Zealand-Australian mountain climber who was the first woman from New Zealand or Australia to reach the summit of K2 and complete the Seven Summits (Carstensz list). Her mission was completed when summited Mt Elbrus in Russia’s Caucasus on July 25th Russian time. Per her website: Our summit push conditions were excellent. The feat comes almost 22 years after the late Rob Hall became the first New Zealand man to complete the Seven Summits in what was a record time of just under seven months.

Burke was the 11th woman from Australia and fifth from New Zealand to summit Mount Everest.
